Lowers Blood Pressure

The phthalide present in celery causes the blood vessels to expand. It lowers the blood pressure for a peaceful night’s sleep. Potassium, an important mineral abundantly found in celery, dilates the blood vessels and reduces blood pressure. It is rich in fiber, and in this way, it also helps lower blood pressure.

Lowers Bad Cholesterol

Celery is associated with a decrease in the fatty molecules present in the blood. These fat molecules may lead to hyperlipidemia and increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. Celery contains butylphthalide and other phthalides that help lower your bad cholesterol, LDL (Low-Density Lipoproteins). Research has shown that daily eating a few stalks may lower your cholesterol significantly.

Celery also regulates the secretion of bile, which is essential for fat digestion and metabolism, thus ensuring a lower cholesterol level while you sleep peacefully.

Regulate Bowel Movement

Is your sleep disturbed because you are bloated? Bloating causes tummy aches and hinders peaceful sleep. Try celery to relieve the bloating by digesting the undigested residue in the stomach and intestine. Celery is rich in dietary fiber and water. They both work together to regulate your bowel movements, increase the secretion of digestive enzymes and relieve constipation and bloating.

Celery is also a natural antibiotic for bacteria that cause SIBO, a condition in which unwanted bacteria make their colonies in our gut, causing pain and bloating.

Relieves Inflammation

Eating celery as a part of the daily diet helps relieve inflammation and pain. Various antioxidants are present in the celery in ample amounts, including Polyphenols which help treat health disorders naturally. Eating celery before bed relieves joint pains and helps you sleep peacefully. Celery also reduces inflammation of the lungs to relieve asthma and increases oxygen supply to the blood.

Celery is also a therapeutic food for people suffering from liver and kidney disorders, skin diseases, urinary tract infections, irritable bowel syndrome, Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO), gastric ulcer, and gout.

Reduce Chances Of Cancer

A compound present in celery called apigenin is an anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-oxidant. Research has shown that apigenin is linked to a reduction in inflammatory proteins. It helps eliminate the substances that are potential carcinogens or tumors, be they benign or malignant from the body. It is specifically protective against breast cancer, intestinal cancer, and leukemias, caused may be by smoking, gene mutation, radiation, etc.

Celery is abundant in a flavonoid called Luteolin, which has anti-cancer properties. This compound slows down the growth and spread of cancer cells and may induce cell destruction. Luteolin may also help in increasing the effectiveness of cancer treatments. Poly acetylenes are chemoprotective compounds that reduce toxicity.

Reduce Stress

Eating celery at night may help you in relaxing. Every 100 grams of celery yields 11 mg of Magnesium. Magnesium acts on the stress hormones to relax your nerves and ensure a peaceful night’s sleep. The sodium cluster salts stimulate the neurotransmitters, which send messages to the brain and help it cope with stress.

Replenish the Liver

Celery helps remove accumulated fats from the liver. People with fatty liver should consume celery raw or in juice form. Regular use of celery improves the functioning of the liver and regulates the liver enzymes, which control several important metabolic processes in the body. It also provides nutrients essential for energy production.

Celery is packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It has a very low glycemic index and a high fiber content. Due to these nutritional properties, celery helps improve many health conditions and prevent many chronic infections and diseases. In short, regular use of celery in a daily diet boosts your health to revitalize the body.
